While on my quest for the perfect pot and for the ability to create it, I found the wonder of crystals that form on my porcelain, like frost on a windowpane Using a unique and complex glazing process, the surface of each pot fired in my kiln can be covered with crystals that grow as my kiln cools.
The steps needed to create each one of the pots you see can be tedious, because I use a fine porcelain clay to form each pot, and, because some of the high fired glaze runs off the pot before it “freezes” and forms crystals. Therefore, each pot requires a pedestal to raise the pot above the glaze puddle and a catcher to keep the glaze from running on to the kiln shelf. My reward comes when I open my kiln and I can say “Oh, wow!” as I see the magic of the crystals on each pot.
Each pot on my shelves is special to me because of all the time and care I took in its creation. I know that when you take one of my pots home you will value it also, because it is meant to be used as well as to be beautiful.
