Management Essentials: Coaching Employees to Higher Performance Levels

Coaching is the secret weapon of an effective, efficient, and cohesive fundraising staff. Unlike feedback, which serves primarily to direct and correct performance, coaching allows staff to rocket forward to the next level of performance, taking on tougher tasks, more responsibility and moving up (without having to move out to another shop to do so, saving you money in recruiting costs!) Coaching well is an art, but one that can be taught, and uses both the creativity of the manger in posing questions, and the innate but unexercised skills and talents of the coachee to move staff out of ruts, into growth areas and into higher levels of performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Differentiate between feedback and coaching

  • Understand which situations call for feedback and which can use coaching effectively

  • Be able to craft you own effective coaching questions for subordinates and peers

  • Understanding how to conduct an effective coaching conversation
